The Tagital T7K and the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus Kids are both 7″ tablets designed for children, so what are the differences between them? Both tablets have the same screen resolution at 1024×600 pixels and each has a protective case, a silicone bumper intended to reduce the likelihood of damage if the tablet is dropped. Both bumpers come in several colours.
Each tablet is an Android tablet. The T7K runs 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box whilst the Y88X Plus Kids running the more recent 5.1 Lollipop. Both tablets also have access to Google Play and the Android content that is available from there.
Both tablets come with 8 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory and both also come with a memory card slot that can be used to expand the available storage by taking cards up to 32 GB in size. Both tablets have quad core processors and come with WiFi and a micro USB port; the Y88X Plus also comes with Bluetooth.
Each tablet has both a front and a rear facing camera. The front facing camera on the T7K is 0.3 megapixels in resolution whilst the rear facing camera is 2.0 MP. The resolutions of the cameras on the Plus are more uncertain, due to conflicting information from the manufacturer; the rear facing camera’s resolution is 2.0 MP but the exact resolution of the front facing camera is not known. Each tablet has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and the T7K has a single speaker whilst the Y88X Plus has two.
Each tablet comes with parental controls and in both cases these are provided through the Zoodles app. Zoodles also comes with some educational content and games, and has a parent dashboard that can be used to control children’s access to the internet, apps and games, as well as measure educational progress, although some features are premium.
In technical terms the tablets are very similar. Screen resolution, internal memory, memory cards, processor type and USB port are all identical. The Y88X Plus does come with Bluetooth and stereo speakers, which the T7K lacks, although these are less essential, and a more recent version of Android. The camera resolutions are probably very similar if not identical. Both tablets tend to be priced in a similar range as well, making them very comparable. Perhaps the biggest difference between the two tablets is customer service. Tablet Express’ customer service for the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus Kids is allegedly poor and, indeed, their representatives seemed not to know the abilities of their tablets. The Dragon Touch Y88X Plus Kids is perhaps a slightly better tablet than the Tagital T7K but it also tends to be slightly more expensive.
