The Tagital T10K and the nabi DreamTab are both tablets designed for children, so how do they compare? The T10K has a 10.1″ screen whilst that of the DreamTab is 8″. The resolution of the T10K is only 1280×800 pixels compared to the 1920×1200 pixels of the DreamTab. Both come with a protective case; the case on the T10K comes in several colours and has an integral stand whilst the DreamTab’s case only comes in nabi’s signature red.
Both tablets are Android tablets, with the T10K running 6.0 Marshmallow compared to the noticeably older 4.4 KitKat of the DreamTab. However, the Android version on the DreamTab is extensively modified with nabi’s Blue Morpho OS overlay, a suite of child-friendly and parent approved features. Both tablets have access to Google Play.
Both tablets come with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory and both will take memory cards up to 32 GB in size. Both have quad core processors, WiFi and Bluetooth; the DreamTab also comes with Near Field Communication, a short range, slow and secure wireless communication method uncommon in children’s tablets. The T10K come with a micro USB port and a DC charging socket. The DreamTab comes with a nabi Connector, a custom connector that functions like a USB and an HDMI port, but requires a custom cable.
Both tablets come with front and rear facing cameras. The resolution of the cameras on the T10K is uncertain, but is believed to be 0.3 megapixel (MP) for the front facing camera and 2.0 MP for the rear. In contrast, the DreamTab has a 2.0 MP front facing camera and a 5.0 MP rear facing one. Both tablets have stereo speakers.
Both tablets come with parental controls. Those on the T10K are provided by iWawa; those on the DreamTab by nabi themselves as part of the Blue Morpho overlay. The DreamTab also has educational content integrated with it through the Wings Learning System and the nabi Dream Pen, which is used with the Dream Pro Studio creative suite.
The T10K is a larger tablet, which may or may not be a benefit – larger tablets are harder for smaller hands to hold. In most ways it is at best equal to the DreamTab, with the same memory, and in many ways inferior, with poorer cameras, parental controls and educational uses. One advantage is that the T10K does have a standard micro USB port rather than the custom nabi Connector of the DreamTab. The version of Android that the T10K runs on may be newer, but that on the DreamTab has been extensively tweaked. The Tagital T10K is a bigger tablet with a more recent version of Android, but the nabi DreamTab comes with more content and integrated features.
