Tablet Comparison: Tagital T10K vs. nabi Jr

Tagital T10KThe Tagital T10K and the nabi Jr are both children’s tablets, so how do they compare? The first major difference is the size; the T10K is a 10.1″ tablet whilst the Jr is only a 5″ tablet. They also have different screen resolutions, with the resolution on the T10K being 1280×800 pixels compared to the 800×480 of the Jr. Both come with protective cases. The T10K’s case comes in several colours and has an integral stand; the Jr’s case only comes in red.

Both tablets are Android tablets, with the T10K running 6.0 Marshmallow and the nabi Jr only running 4.4 KitKat, although the Jr does come with nabi’s Blue Morpho OS overlay, a suite of child-friendly and parent -approved tweaks for the OS.

The T10K has 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, double the 8 GB of the Jr. Both tablets have memory card slots capable of taking memory cards up to 32 GB in size. Each tablet has WiFi and Bluetooth; the Jr also comes with Near Field Communication, a short-range, slow and secure wireless transmission method uncommon in children’s tablets. Both tablets have quad core processors. The T10K has a standard micro USB port and a DC charging socket. In comparison, the Jr has a nabi Connector, a custom port that functions as both a USB and an HDMI port but requires a custom cable.

The T10K has front and rear facing cameras. It is believed that the resolution of the front facing camera is 0.3 megapixels (MP) and the rear 2.0 MP. The Jr has a single, swivel mounted camera that has a resolution of 2.0 MP.

Both tablets come with parental controls, with those on the Tagital T10K being provided by iWawa. The controls on the Jr are part of nabi’s Blue Morpho OS overlay, which include the Wings Learning System and nabi Coins.

The T10K is, in most ways, superior to the nabi Jr, which is aimed at younger children. The T10K will work for younger children – although it can be a bit large – but it will also work for older children. The software on the Jr, despite running an older version of Android, is more tightly integrated with the tablet thanks to the OS overlay. The nabi Jr is a starter tablet aimed at younger children, although it is a decent starter, whilst the Tagital T10K is more capable for older children.
