The Tagital T01K and the Fire 7 Kids Edition are both tablets designed for children, but how do they differ? There is also the Fire 8 Kids Edition, which differs in a few ways from the Fire 7. The first difference is the size; the T10K is a 10.1″ tablet whilst the Fire 7 is a still more common 7″ (the Fire 8 is an 8″ tablet). The T10K’s screen has a higher resolution than the Fire 7, being 1280×800 pixels compared to the 1024×600 pixels of the Fire 7 (the Fire 8’s resolution is 1280×800 pixels). Both tablets come with a protective case that is available in a number of colours; that of the T10K has an integral stand.
Both tablets are Android tablets, with the T10K running 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The Fire 7, however, runs Amazon’s own variant of the OS rather than being a pure Android setup. The T10K comes with Google Play pre-installed; the Fire 7 cannot easily install that but does come with the Amazon Appstore.
The T10K comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, as does the Fire 7 (the Fire 8 comes with 32 GB). Both have memory card slots, with that of the T10K taking cards up to 32 GB in size whilst the Fire 7 takes cards up to 256 GB. Both tablets come with quad-core processors, Bluetooth, WiFi and a micro USB port; the T10K also has a DC charging port.
Both tablets have front and rear cameras. It hasn’t been possible to absolutely determine the resolution of the cameras on the T10K, but they are believed to be the same as those on the Fire 7, with a 0.3 megapixel (MP) front-facing camera and a 2.0 MP rear-facing one. The T10K has stereo speakers, compared to the single speaker of the Fire 7 (the Fire 8 also has stereo speakers).
Both tablets have parental controls. Those on the T10K are through iWawa whilst Amazon’s are integrated into Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, which also comes with over 13,000 pieces of included content.
The Amazon tablet also comes with Amazon’s 2 year “worry-free” guarantee, where Amazon state they will repair or replace a damaged tablet, and even state that this includes accidental damage. The battery life of the T10K is 5 hours, compared to the 8 hours of the Fire 7 (and the 10 hours of the Fire 8).
The only area where the T10K is definitely superior to the Fire 7 is in having stereo speakers, higher resolution (diminished by the larger size) and a stand (and the Fire 8 has stereo speakers and more technical advantages). This is a comparatively minor difference. The size is a bigger difference, and that may or may not be a good thing; big tablets are better for reading and watching the screen, but they can also be harder for children to hold. The Tagital T10K is generally an inferior tablet to the Fire 7 Kids Edition (and more so to the Fire 8 Kids Edition) and the Amazon tablet also has a better guarantee.
