The Sprout Channel Cubby and the Contixo LA703 Kids are both 7″ tablets intended for children running on the Android operating system. Here is a comparison between the features of the two tablets. Each has a 7″ touchscreen display, and the resolution of both tablets is 1024×600 pixels. Each has a protective bumper to reduce the chance of damage. The silicone bumper on the Cubby only comes in one colour, green, and covers less of the tablet than is usual. The case for the LA703 Kids comes in two different styles, each of which comes in a wide range of different colours.
Both tablets run the same version of Android, 4.4 KitKat. The Cubby comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, double that of the LA703, which only comes with 8GB. Each tablet also comes with a micro SD card slot, which can be used to expand the available memory using memory cards up to 32GB in size. Both tablets have quad core processors. Each tablet can also use Google Play, but on the Cubby this can only be accessed outside of Cubby Mode.
Both the Cubby and the LA703 have stereo speakers, a built-in microphone and a 3.5mm headphone socket. Both have a micro USB port for charging and connecting to other devices, but the Cubby also comes with an HDMI port, which can be used to connect the tablet to suitable devices such as televisions. Each tablet also has two cameras, one front facing and one rear facing. The rear facing tablet is the same resolution on both tablets, 2.0 megapixel (MP), but the front facing camera on the Cubby is superior, having a 2.0MP resolution compared to the 0.3MP front facing camera on the LA703.
Each tablet comes with WiFi, but the Cubby also has Bluetooth, allowing it to be wirelessly connected to other Bluetooth-enabled devices. Each tablet comes with parental controls; the LA703 through the Zoodles app and the Cubby through their own. The Cubby also comes with some educational material as standard.
The two tablets are generally quite similar. The Sprout Channel Cubby has more internal memory than the LA703 Kids, Bluetooth and a better quality front facing camera; the LA703 Kids has a wider range of cases, and cases that look to be better, available, and is also quite a bit cheaper.
