The Contixo Kids LA703 and the iRulu BabyPad Y1 are both 7″ Android tablets. Both tablets are designed for children, with protective cases having reinforced corners. The LA703 runs Android 4.4 KitKat whilst the Y1 runs 4.2.2 KitKat, which is a slightly older version, out of the box.
Both tablets have multi-touch screens, but the resolution of the LA703 is 1024×600 pixels whilst that of the Y1 is only 800×400 pixels.
The memory for the Y1 is 8 Gigabytes (GB), as is that of the LA703. Both memories can be expanded; the Y1 to 32GB and the LA703 will take memory cards up to 32GB.
Both the LA703 and the Y1 have a 3.5mm headphone jack, for plugging in external headphones, as well as stereo speakers. Both have micro USB ports, for plugging them into other devices, such as laptop and desktop computers, and WiFi for accessing the internet; the LA703 also has a 9V DC power socket and a built in microphone.
The LA703 has front and rear facing cameras, as does the Y1. The front facing camera on each tablet is 0.3 megapixel (MP), but the LA703’s rear facing one is 2.0 MP compared to the 0.3 MP of the BabyPad Y1.
Both tablets have parental controls, with modes for both children and adults. Those on the Contixo run off the Zoodles app, which rates all content for how age appropriate it is. In adult mode, both will run like a normal Android tablet.
The LA703 and the Y1 will both operate Google Play, and have access to a wide range of Android apps, including games and educational content.
The processor on the LA703 is a quad core compared to the dual core of the Y1.
The stated battery life of the Contixo tablet is five hours, compared to four for the iRulu, but this can easily be affected by what use the tablet is being put to.
A one-year worry-free guarantee can be bought for the Contixo LA703, covering it against accidental damage.
