Which Tablet is Better, the Contixo LA703 Kids or the Kindle Fire HD6 Kids Edition?

Contixo Kids LA703The Contixo LA703 Kids is a 7″ Android tablet whilst the Kindle Fire HD6 Kids Edition is a 6″ tablet (although a 7″ version is also available) that runs on Amazon’s own offshoot of the Android operating system. The resolution of the LA703’s screen is 1024×600 pixels whilst that of the HD6 is 1280×800. Each comes in a protective case designed to reduce the likelihood of children damaging their tablets, although the LA703 comes with a wider range of colours in two styles.

The Contixo tablet runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, whilst the Kindle Fire runs on Amazon’s Fire OS 4 Sangria operating system, which is derived from Android. Both have access to the entire Android app infrastructure, but the Kindle’s own OS can make regular Android apps problematic to run.

The LA703 has stereo speakers, and a headphone jack, whilst the Kindle only has one speaker and a jack. Each also has a built in microphone, and a micro USB port for connecting to other devices. The Contixo also has a DC power port, and a memory expansion slot which means that, although each tablet has 8GB in memory, the LA703 can be expanded to 40GB in total. The Kindle does come with unlimited storage on Amazon Cloud Drive though.

The camera resolution is identical on both tablets; a 0.3 megapixel (MP) front facing camera and a 2.0 MP rear facing one. Both tablets come with WiFi, but the HD6 also comes with Bluetooth. Both tablets come with quad core processors.

Each tablet has configurable parental controls, which can limit what children have access to and how much time they spend on their tablet. The Contixo’s are provided through the Zoodles app, whilst the HD6 is done thorough Amazon Free Time Unlimited. Each tablet will function like a normal tablet when used outside of the relevant children’s mode, allowing parents to use them as normal.

The Contixo can have a one-year “worry-free” guarantee added, whilst the HD6 comes with Amazon’s two year “Worry-Free” guarantee included.

Both tablets are good children’s tablets with high specs, although there are differences. The biggest difference is the initial price – the HD6 costs about double what the Contixo LA703 does.
