The Samsung Galaxy Tab E Lite Kids and the nabi 2S are both 7″ tablets designed for children, so how do the two tablets differ? Although both have 7″ touchscreens, the resolution of the Samsung is only 1024×600 pixels compared to the superior resolution of the 2S at 1280×800 pixels. Both come with a protective bumper intended to reduce the likelihood of damage if the tablet is dropped. Each tablet’s bumper comes in only one colour; light green for the Samsung and red for the nabi.
The Samsung comes with 8 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, whilst the 2S has double that with 16 GB. Each tablet also comes with a memory card slot capable of taking micro SD memory cards up to 32 GB in size. Both tablets run Android, 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box for the 2S and the newer 4.4 Kitkat for the Samsung. Each tablet can also access Google Play, and can download a wide range of Android apps and content.
Both tablets only have one 2.0 megapixel camera. That on the Samsung is rear facing whilst that on the nabi is front facing. Each tablet has a quad core processor with the nabi 2S also has a fifth, battery saver, processor. The Samsung comes with a micro USB port for recharging and connecting to other devices whilst the nabi comes with its own custom nabi Connector that requires nabi’s own cables to use. The 2S has twin speakers, whilst the Samsung has only got one, and both have a headphone jack and a microphone.
Each tablet comes with WiFi and Bluetooth but the 2S also has Near Field Communication. Both tablets come with parental controls provided by the manufacturer, with those on the Samsung being linked to the subscription-based Samsung Kids.
In terms of design and appearance, both tablets are fairly similar, with a protective case on a fairly standard tablet design. In terms of technical specifications, the nabi 2S is superior to the Samsung in most respects; the front facing camera, whilst identical in resolution, is in an odd place for a sole camera. The Samsung’s battery will probably last longer in quad core but the 2S can use the battery saver core instead for a reduction in speed.
