Tablet Comparison: iRulu 7″ Kids Tablet vs Fire 7 Kids Edition

iRulu 7" Kids TabletThe iRulu 7″ Kids Tablet and the Fire 7 Kids Edition are both 7″ children’s tablets, so how do they compare? There is also the Fire 8, which is similar to the Fire 7, but has a few differences, the first being the size, as it is an 8″ tablet. The Kids Tablet and the Fire 7 both have a screen resolution of 1024×600 pixels (the resolution of the Fire 8 is 1280×800 pixels). Both tablets come with a protective case in several colours.

The Kids Tablet is an Android tablet running 7.1 Nougat out of the box and has access to Google Play. The Fire 7 is also an Android tablet, but it runs on Amazon’s own variant of that OS. The Fire 7 cannot easily install Google Play, but comes with the Amazon Appstore installed.

Both the Kids Tablet and the Fire 7 come with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory (the Fire 8 has 32 GB) and both come with memory card slots. The Kids Tablet can take memory cards up to 32 GB in size; the Fire tablets can take cards up to 256 GB. Both tablets have WiFi, Bluetooth and a micro USB port.

Both tablets come with front and rear facing cameras. In both cases, the resolutions are the same; the front facing camera has a resolution of 0.3 megapixels (MP) whilst the resolution of the rear facing camera is 2.0 MP.

Both tablets come with parental controls. Those of the Kids Tablet are third party parental controls from iWawa, which allow parents to control usage, websites children can visit and content they can use. The parental controls of the Fire 7 are provided by Amazon and are built into the subscription service, Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, which comes with over 13,000 pieces of included content.

The Fire 7 also comes with Amazon’s two year “worry-free” guarantee, where Amazon say they will repair or replace a damaged tablet, even if the damage is accidental. The battery life of the Kids Tablet is listed as being 3-5 hours whilst that of the Fire 7 is 8 hours (the Fire 8 has a listed life of 10 hours).

The Kids Tablet is inferior to the Fire 7 in pretty much every area; it has identical camera resolutions, but for both tablets, these are not great, and the same amount of internal memory. The Fire 7 has better battery life, will take larger memory cards and comes with a better guarantee and parental controls. The Fire 8 exceeds the Kids Tablet further, with more memory and a better screen resolution. The iRulu 7″ Kids Tablet is inferior in general to the Fire 7 Kids Edition, and even more so to the Fire 8.
