The Dragon Touch K8 Kids and the Tagital T7K are both tablets designed for children so how do they compare? The first difference is the size. The K8 Kids is an 8″ tablet whilst the T7K is a more common 7″. The K8 Kids has a screen resolution of 1280×800 pixels compared to the 1024×600 pixels of the T7K. Larger tablets usually have higher resolutions. The T7K has a protective silicone bumper intended to reduce the chance of damage if it is dropped, which comes in several colours. The K8 Kids has a protective case, that only comes in a single colour combination, that has an integral stand and a stylus connected to it.
Both tablets are Android tablets with the T7K running 4.4.2. KitKat out of the box and the K8 Kids running the substantially more recent 6.0 Marshmallow. Both tablets have access to Google Play and any the content that is available from it.
The K8 Kids comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, double the 8 GB of the T7K. Both tablets have memory card slots that will take memory cards up to 32 GB in size. Each tablet also has a quad core processor, although the K8 Kids comes with 2 GB of RAM. Each has WiFi and a micro USB port; the K8 Kids also has Bluetooth.
Both tablets have front and rear facing cameras. On the K8 Kids, the front-facing camera is 2.0 megapixels (MP) and the rear-facing camera is 5.0 MP. These have substantially higher resolutions that the T7K’s cameras; it has a 0.3 MP front-facing camera and a 2.0 MP rear-facing one. Each tablet has a headphone jack and a single speaker.
Both tablets come with parental controls provided by a third party. For the K8 Kids, the controls are provided by KIDOZ whilst those on the T7K are from Zoodles. Each of these parental controls also comes with some included educational content, that can adjust to the child’s capabilities, and games. Parents can control just what their children have access to. The K8 Kids also comes with some included Disney content, in the form of ebooks and audiobooks.
In technical terms, the K8 Kids stats are better than those of the T7K in almost every way. The screen resolution is higher, although this is to be expected in a larger tablet. The cameras have a significantly better resolution than those on the T7K. The memory is better than well, being double that of the T7K. Where the K8 Kids does not exceed the T7K technically it matches it. The primary exception is probably battery life. Stated battery life under normal usage is listed as being only 3 hours, which is quite poor. One non-technical area where the K8 Kids might be let down is the manufacturer allegedly does not have the best customer service. The Dragon Touch K8 Kids is a technically superior tablet to the Tagital T7K.
