Tablet Comparison: Contixo LA703 Kids vs. Kurio 7S

Contixo Kids LA703The Contixo LA703 Kids and the Kurio 7S are both 7″ Android tablets designed for children. Both have 1024×600 pixel resolution touchscreens, and both run Android; the 7S runs 4.2 Jelly Bean and the Contixo the more recent 4.4 KitKat. Each has a case with reinforced corners, although the 703 case comes in a range of colours in two different styles.

Each tablet has 8GB of internal memory, and an expansion card slot that takes cards up to 32GB, which can increase this to 40GB in total. Each also has a micro USB port for connecting to other devices, two stereo speakers, a headphone jack and a built in microphone, although the jack on the 7S has a mic pin, allowing headphones with integral microphones to be used, and the 7S also has an HDMI port.

Both the LA703 and the 7S have a 0.3 megapixel (MP) front facing camera. The rear facing one on the 7S is 2.1 MP whilst that on the Contixo is 2.0 MP.

The tablets also both with parental controls with a different interface for when children use the tablets. Those on the Contixo are powered by the Zoodles app, which allows the child to use their own Playground interface, whilst the Kurio uses CronLab for safe surfing, and both have WiFi for internet access. Both tablets will also function as a normal Android tablet when out of the children’s mode, and parents can control various settings that allow how much access their children can have. With them running Android, they do have access to the Android app ecosystem.

The Contixo comes with Google Play pre-installed, whilst the Kurio has the Kurio Store, although Google Play can be installed. Both also come with a selection of pre-installed apps and come with multi-lingual support.

The LA703 has a quad core processor, whilst that of the 7S is a dual core, which should make the Contixo tablet faster when running applications and games. The Contixo is a slightly newer, slightly more powerful tablet at a comparable price.
