Which is Better, the nabi 2S or the InnoTab MAX?

Fuhu’s nabi 2S and VTech’s InnoTab MAX are both 7″ tablets designed for children, so what are the differences between the two tablets? The screen resolution on the InnoTab is 1024 x 600 pixels, compared to the better resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels on the nabi. The nabi 2S has a protective bumper with strengthened corners designed to reduce the chances of damage to the tablet, whilst the InnoTab MAX’s case is custom designed for children and has a removable screen cover which also has a stand. Both are Android tablets, with the 2S running 4.2 Jelly Bean and the MAX running 4.2.2.

The nabi 2S has 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal storage, whilst the InnoTab MAX only has 8GB. The memory on each can be expanded by using a memory card; in each case, the tablet will take cards up to 32GB in size. With the larger initial onboard memory, this still means that the 2S has more storage than the MAX.

Both tablets have WiFi, but the 2S also has Bluetooth and Near Field Communication. The 2S has stereo speakers, compared to the single speaker of the MAX. Both have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The InnoTab MAX has a micro USB port, whilst the nabi 2S has a nabi Connector. The InnoTab also has a cartridge port for using with InnoTab’s cartridge library.

Both tablets use curated app stores to get Android apps, with the InnoTab MAX getting its from the InnoTab Learning Lodge. However, in Mommy/Daddy Mode on the 2S, there is access to the wider Android app ecosystem, meaning that there are many more apps available for the 2S, not just the curated ones. Each also has parental controls, although those of the InnoTab are probably slightly stronger. Each as a 2.0 megapixel camera; the nabi’s is front mounted, whilst that on the InnoTab is swivel mounted, so it can be rotated to be front or rear facing.

The InnoTab MAX is an educational tablet aimed at children, whilst the nabi 2S is an Android tablet designed for children. The case of the InnoTab MAX is stronger and more damage resistant than that of the nabi 2S, which makes it suitable for younger children. The nabi 2S does have educational uses, but the InnoTab MAX is primarily suited for education rather than entertainment.
