Both Fuhu’s nabi 2S and the Contixo LA703 Kids are 7″ children’s tablets. Both come with touchscreens; the nabi 2S has a higher resolution of 1280×800 pixels compared to the Contixo’s 1024×600 pixels. Each has a case, with strengthening at the corners, intended to reduce the chances of damage to the tablet if it is dropped or knocked.
Both are Android tablets, with access to the Android content ecosystem, with the nabi running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and the Contixo running the higher Android 4.4 KitKat. Each can function as a regular Android tablet, as well as one suitable for children.
The nabi 2S comes with a large 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, double that of the LA703, which has 8GB. Each tablet also has a micro SD card slot, which can expand the available memory with memory cards up to 32GB in size, to a maximum of 40GB for the Contixo and 48GB for the nabi. Each tablet has a quad core processor, but the nabi 2S also has a fifth, battery-saver core.
The LA703 and the 2S both have stereo speakers, a microphone and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Contixo tablet has a micro USB connector for connecting it to other devices, whilst the nabi has a nabi Connector. The Contixo has two cameras, a front facing 0.3 megapixel (MP) and a rear facing 2.0MP. The nabi has only one camera, a front facing 2.0MP.
Both tablets come with WiFi for connecting to the internet, but the nabi 2S also has Bluetooth and NFC. Each has parental controls; those of the Contixo are provided by Zoodles, and those on the nabi work through Fooz Kids and can be adjusted in Mommy/Daddy Mode. The nabi 2S also has educational facilities through Fooz University, with the ability to measure a child’s progress with many different lessons and see how well they are doing, and what problems they may have.
In many ways these tablets are quite similar. Both have quad core processors, although the nabi also has a fifth. The Contixo LA703 Kids runs a higher version of Android, but the nabi 2S has better screen resolution and memory. Which is better will depend on the precise use the tablet is put to.
