The Dragon Touch X10 Kids and the Fire 7 Kids Edition are both children’s tablets, so how do they compare? There is also the Fire 8 Kids Edition which has a few differences to the Fire 7. The first difference is the size; the X10 Kids is a 10.1″ tablet whilst the Fire 7 is a 7″ tablet (the Fire 8 is an 8″ tablet). The screen resolution of the X10 Kids is 1280×800 pixels compared to 1024×600 of the Fire 7 (the Fire 8’s resolution is 1280×800 pixels). Both tablets come with a protective case in a number of colours; that of the X10 Kids has an integral stand.
Both tablets are Android tablets with the X10 Kids running 7.0 Nougat. However, the Fire 7 is not a pure Android tablet, instead running on Amazon’s own variant of the OS. The X10 Kids comes with Google Play installed whilst the Fire 7 does not, instead using the Amazon Appstore.
The X10 Kids comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory as does the Fire 7 (the Fire 8 comes with 32 GB). Both tablets have memory card slots with the X10 Kids taking cards up to 64 GB in size, whilst the Fire 7 will take cards up to 256 GB. Both tablets have quad core processors, WiFi, Bluetooth and a micro USB port, but the X10 Kids also comes with a micro HDMI port and a DC charging socket.
Both tablets have front and rear facing cameras. Both cameras on the X10 Kids have a resolution of 2.0 megapixels (MP); only the rear facing camera on the Fire 7 has this resolution, with the front-facing camera only having a resolution of 0.3 MP. The X10 Kids and the Fire 7 both have single speakers (the Fire 8 has stereo speakers).
Both tablets come with parental controls. Those on the X10 Kids are provided by Kidoz whilst those on the Fire 7 are through Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, which comes with a year’s subscription to over 13,000 pieces of content.
The Amazon tablet also comes with Amazon’s 2 year “worry-free” guarantee where Amazon say that they will repair or replace a damaged or faulty tablet, also stating that this includes accidental damage. The battery life of the X10 Kids is stated as being 5 hours whilst that of the Fire 7 is 8 hours (that of the Fire 8 is stated as being 10 hours).
The front facing camera on the X10 Kids is the only area where the tablet is definitely superior to the Fire 7 (and the Fire 8 has even more technical advantages). Overall, the Dragon Touch X10 Kids is inferior to the Fire 7 Kids Edition (and the Fire 8 Kids Edition) and the Amazon tablets have a better guarantee.
