Fuhu’s nabi 2S is a 7″ Android tablet whilst Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD6 Kids Edition is a 6″ tablet that runs on a variant of Android and is based on their popular Kindle Fire range. Both tablets have touchscreens with a 1280×800 pixel resolution. The nabi 2S and the HD6 both have a protective bumper, to help reduce the chance of damage if dropped, and the Kindle Fire also has a “worry-free” guarantee.
The nabi 2S runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean whilst the kids Edition runs Amazon’s own variant of the open source Android operating system, Fire OS4 “Sangria”. Both have access to the Android app and content ecosystem. Both also have quad core processors, although the nabi 2S also has a fifth, battery saving processor.
The Kindle Fire has only one speaker whilst the nabi 2S has stereo speakers. They each have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The HD6 has two cameras, a rear facing 2.0 megapixel (MP) one and a 0.3 MP front-facing one, whilst the nabi 2S has a single camera, a front-facing one with 2.0MP resolution. The Kindle Fire has a micro USB port whi8lst the nabi 2S has a nabi Connector instead.
The nabi 2S has a high internal memory of 16 gigabytes (GB), double the 8GB of the HD6. The nabi’s memory can also be increased by using memory cars up to 32GB in size in the micro SD card slot, whilst no such option exists on the Kindle Fire, although unlimited content can be uploaded to Amazon Cloud Drive. Both tablets have WiFi and Bluetooth, but the nabi 2S also has NFC.
Each has parental controls, the Kindle through Amazon Unlimited FreeTime, and the nabi 2S through Mommy/Daddy Mode and Fooz Kids. The educational uses, through Fooz University, are probably higher on the nabi 2S, and parents can keep track of how well their children are doing. Kids Unlimited Free Time comes with a lot of content available on it; however, this is a subscription service and, after the first, free, year is used up, will require purchasing again.
