Does the Kindle Fire HD 6 Kids Edition Have Any Parental Controls?

Padlock with KeyWhen a child has access to the internet, what material they will be accessing is always a worry for parents, so what parental controls there are available is an important factor when buying a tablet for your child.

The Kindle Fire HD 6 Kids Edition has a number of different settings related to this. Through Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, a years subscription to which is included in the purchase, you can set up four different child profiles and two adult ones. The child profiles are restricted, and cannot access the web browser, email, in-app purchases and social media. The parental profiles are password protected and allow access to all of these.

There are over 5,000 curated games, apps, books, television programmes and films included in FreeTime. Using FreeTime, the parent can set daily limits to what a child is allowed to do on the Kids Edition, and require educational tasks to be completed before playing games for example.

There is no access to Google Play, or the Amazon Appstore, using a child profile, so they cannot get any content that hasn’t been approved by either Amazon or the parent.
