Fuhu’s nabi 2S and VTech’s InnoTab 2S are both tablets designed to be used by children, but there are substantial differences between the two. The InnoTab 2S requires batteries to use, or alternatively can be plugged into the mains with the separate AC adapter, whilst the nabi 2S is a rechargeable tablet. The nabi 2S is also a new tablet model, whilst the InnoTab 2S is an older one that has since been replaced by the InnoTab 3S. The nabi 2S has a protective bumper intended to help reduce the likelihood of damage, whilst the case of the InnoTab 2S has been specifically designed for children.
The nabi 2S is a 7″ tablet with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution screen, whilst the InnoTab 2S is a smaller, 5″ tablet. The 2S runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as its operating system. The nabi has access to the content from the various Android stores, including a curated one. The InnoTab has access to VTech’s Learning Lodge Navigator, another curated app store, although it also has a cartridge slot which will take appropriate VTech cartridges.
The nabi 2S comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, eight times as much as that of the InnoTab 2S, which has 2GB. Each tablet’s memory can also be expanded with a memory card in the micro SD card slot, and both will take cards up to 32GB in size. Each tablet only has one camera, but the InnoTab’s is swivel mounted whilst the nabi’s is front facing. The InnoTab’s is 1.3 megapixel (MP) whilst the nabi’s is a superior 2.0MP.
Both tablets have educational uses, and education is the primary use of the InnoTab and parents have the ability to track their child’s progress, but the nabi has Fooz University, which has many lessons and also has the ability to track a child’s progress. Both also come with WiFi, but the nabi also has Bluetooth and NFC. Both also have parental controls to safeguard the child online.
The InnoTab 2S is an older tablet and is primarily intended as an educational tablet. It is also designed in such a way that will make it harder to damage. The InnoTab 2S is better suited for education and younger children, and is a much chunkier tablet for its capabilities, whilst the nabi 2S is a more fully-featured and substantially more powerful Android tablet with a variety of uses.
