The Dragon Touch X10 Kids and the nabi DreamTab are both children’s tablets, but how do they compare? For starters, at 10.1″ the X10 Kids is a larger tablet than the DreamTab, which is an 8″ tablet. However, the screen of the DreamTab has a much higher resolution at 1920×1200 pixels compared to the 1280×800 pixels of the X10 Kids. Both have protective cases intended to reduce the chance of damage if the tablet is dropped; that of the X10 Kids comes in several colours and has an integrated stand whilst the DreamTab’s comes in nabi’s signature red.
Both tablets are Android tablets, with the X10 Kids running 7.0 Nougat out of the box and the DreamTab the older 4.4 KitKat. The DreamTab’s Android version is heavily modified though, running nabi’s Blue Morpho OS overlay, a suite of child-friendly and parent-approved features. Both tablets can access Google Play.
Each tablet has 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory and both have memory card slots. The X10 Kids will take memory cards up to 64 GB in size compared to the 32 GB of the DreamTab. Both tablets have quad core processors, WiFi and Bluetooth but the DreamTab also comes with Near Field Communication, a short range, slow and secure wireless communication method uncommon in children’s tablets. The X10 Kids comes with a micro USB port, a micro HDMI port and a DC charging socket. The DreamTab only comes with a custom nabi Connector which will function like a USB port and an HDMI port but requires a custom cable.
Both tablets have front and rear facing cameras and in both cases the front-facing camera is 2.0 megapixel (MP) resolution. The rear facing camera on the X10 Kids is also 2.0 MP whilst on the DreamTab it is 5.0 MP. Each has a mic and headphone jack; the X10 Kids has a single speaker whilst the DreamTab has stereo speakers.
Both tablets have parental controls, with those on the X10 Kids provided by Kidoz. The DreamTab’s parental controls are integrated into the Blue Morpho OS Overlay. The X10 Kids can get educational content through Kidoz and the DreamTab via the Wings Learning System. The DreamTab also comes with the nabi Dream Pen, a digital stylus designed to interact with the DreamTab’s Dream Pro Studio suite of creative apps.
In many ways, the X10 Kids is inferior to the DreamTab. It is larger, but the screen resolution is lower. The resolution of the rear-facing camera on the X10 Kids is also notably lower. The tablets have the same memory but the X10 Kids will take larger memory cards. One advantage that the X10 Kids has is that it uses standard cables, rather than the custom cable the DreamTab requires. It also runs a newer version of Android but the DreamTab’s Blue Morpho OS overlay comes with more content and is much more tightly integrated with the tablet. The Dragon Touch X10 Kids is a bigger tablet but the nabi DreamTab comes with more content and integrated software that has more features.
