Tablet Comparison: Kurio 7S vs. LeapPad Ultra

Kurio 7SBoth the Kurio 7S and the LeapPad Ultra are 7″ children’s tablets with 1024×600 pixel resolution screens. They are, however, quite different items.

Although both tablets are aimed at children, the Kurio 7S is a kids Android tablet, whilst the LeapPad Ultra is an educational tablet that runs on its own operating system.

Both have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Kurio 7S has two built in speakers, whilst the LeapPad has only one. Both have a front and a rear facing camera; on the LeapPad Ultra these are both 2.0 megapixel (MP), whilst on the Kurio the front facing one is 0.3MP and the rear facing one 2.1MP. Both have ports allowing them to be connected to a computer. Both also have parental controls and the ability to create different profiles for different users.

They both have 8GB of internal storage, which with the Kurio 7S can be expanded to 40GB, and both have WiFi. The Kurio 7S can access a wide range of sites, partially determined by the parental controls, whilst the Ultra can only visit LeapFrog approved sites.

The Kurio has access to Kurio’s own store of curated apps, but it can also have other stores such as the Amazon Appstore installed. The LeapPad Ultra has access to LeapPad’s own App Centre of specially created apps, but no others. The Ultra can also take a number of LeapFrog cartridges.

The focus of the LeapPad Ultra is definitely educational, whilst that of the Kurio 7S is that of an Android tablet suitable for children, even though it does come with some pre-loaded educational apps.
