The LeapPad Ultimate does come with a protective bumper intended to reduce the chance of damage. This offers extra protection at the corners, where screens are the most vulnerable. The screen itself is described as being shatter-safe. The case has cut-outs for the various ports and cameras.

To further protect the screen from such as scratches, a protective film can also be used.
