The Orbo Jr, unlike the LeapPad Ultra, is an Android tablet aimed at children, whilst the Ultra is an educational tablet designed for children. Consequently, they are quite different items serving different markets. The LeapPad Ultra is designed to educate, often by entertaining, whilst the Orbo Jr is a standard Android tablet with no specifically designed educational features.
The tablets have a screen of the same size, although the Ultra’s is probably more sensitive. The built-in memory of the Ultra is double that of the Orbo Jr, although the latter’s can be expanded with an SD card. Both can be connected to a computer using a USB cable.
Both tablets have two cameras, one front and one rear, but on the Ultra these are both 2MP, whilst on the Orbo Jr only the rear camera is 2MP, as the front facing one is only 1.3MP.
The Orbo Jr has a protective case to help protect it, whilst the LeapPad Ultra has undergone rigorous child testing, including dropping it, to ensure that it will withstand being used by a child.
The Orbo Jr has the full range of Android apps available, and full connectivity to the internet, with the potential problems that can cause, whilst the LeapPad Ultra will only allow limited internet access of LeapFrog approved websites and only apps from their App Center to be installed.
The two tablets fulfil different needs. The LeapPad Ultra is designed to educate, in an entertaining way, and keep your child safe, whilst the Orbo Jr is designed to access the internet and entertain.
