The iRulu BabyPad Y1 and the Kurio 7S are both 7″ Android tablets designed for children. Both have multi-point capacitance touchscreens; the Y1 has a 800×400 pixel resolution screen whilst that of the 7S is 1024×600.
Both the Y1 and the 7S run Android; out of the box, the Y1 runs the slightly higher version of Android 4.2.2 KitKat compared to the 4.2 of the Kurio 7S. With both tablets running Android, they can both access to the Android app ecosystem, although for the 7S Google Play may need installing, as it may come with only the Kurio Store of curated apps installed.
The BabyPad Y1 and the 7S both come with 8GB of expandable memory. The Y1’s memory can be increased to 32GB, using the memory card slot, whilst that of the Kurio 7S can be increased to 40GB.
Both tablets come with stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone socket, allowing external headphones to be plugged into them. They also have ports allowing them to be plugged into external devices, such as computers, as well as WiFi for accessing the internet.
The Y1 has 0.3 Megapixel (MP) front and rear facing cameras, whilst the Kurio 7S has a 0.3MP front facing camera and a 2.1MP rear facing one.
There are parental controls on both the BabyPad Y1 and the Kurio 7S. The tablets each have an adult mode, which enables them to be used like a normal Android tablet, and a child mode, which limits what a child is able to do and access using the device.
Both tablets are also designed from a hardware point of view to be suitable for children.
