The iRulu 7″ Kids Tablet and the nabi Jr are both children’s tablets, so how do they compare? The first difference is screen size; the Kids Tablet is a 7″ tablet with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels whilst the Jr is only a 5″ tablet with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. Both tablets come with protective cases intended to reduce the chance of damage if the tablet is dropped. The Kids Tablet’s case comes in several colours whilst the Jr’s case comes in nabi’s signature red.
Both tablets are Android tablets with the Kids Tablet running 7.1 Nougat out of the box. The Jr runs the older 4.4. KitKat; however, it does come with nabi’s Blue Morpho OS overlay, a suite of features designed for children.
The Kids Tablet comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, double the 8 GB of the nabi Jr. Both tablets come with memory card slots capable of taking memory cards up to 32 GB in size. Each comes with WiFi and Bluetooth but the nabi also comes with Near Field Communication, a short-range, slow and secure wireless transmission method. The Kids Tablet has a micro USB port whilst the Jr comes with a nabi Connector, a custom connector that functions as both USB port and HDMI port but requires a custom cable.
The Kids Tablet comes with two cameras. The front facing camera is 0.3 megapixel (MP) resolution and the rear facing camera has a resolution of 2.0 (MP). The nabi Jr has a single, swivel mounted 2.0 MP camera.
Both tablets come with parental controls. The Kids Tablet has third party controls provided by iWawa, which allow parents to control tablet usage and what children can access. The Jr comes with parental controls from nabi, built into the OS overlay. The OS overlay also comes with the Wings Learning System; the Kids Tablet has no educational features built in.
The nabi Jr is a starter tablet that is aimed at younger children than the Kids Tablet, which is one reason for its smaller size. The Kids Tablet is a larger tablet with a higher resolution screen, two cameras and more internal memory. It runs on a more recent version of Android, but the OS on the nabi tablet has been extensively altered. The Jr’s nabi Connector is also more inconvenient than the Kids Tablet’s standard port. The iRulu 7″ Kids Tablet is a more powerful tablet for older children but the nabi Jr does have nice features for younger ones.
