The Contixo Kids Q102 and the Kindle Fire HD6 Kids Edition are both Android tablets designed for children, so what are the differences between them? The biggest and most immediately obvious difference is in the size of the two tablets. The HD6 is only a 6″ tablet, making it a bit smaller than the average, whilst the Q102 is a 10.1″ tablet, making it rather larger than the norm. Both tablets have touch screen, but the HD6 has better resolution at 1280×800 pixels compared to the Contixo tablet’s 1024×600 pixels. Each also has a protective bumper with strengthened corners to reduce the chance of damage, but the Q102’s is available in a wider range of colours.
Both tablets are Android tablets, but the Contixo runs the standard Android system, at version 4.4 KitKat, whilst the HD6 runs on Amazon’s own variant of the Android operating system. Each has access to the Android content network. Both tablets also have quad core processors. The Q102 comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, whilst the Kindle only has 8GB. The Contixo tablet also has a micro SD card slot, that will take memory cards up to 32GB, further expanding the available memory, which the Kindle lacks, although the latter does allow unlimited content to be uploaded to Amazon Cloud Drive.
The Kindle only has a single speaker, whilst the Contixo tablet comes with stereo speakers. Both come with a 3.5 mm headphone jack as well as a built-in microphone. Both tablets come with a front facing and a rear facing camera; for each tablet, the front facing camera is 0.3 megapixels (MP) and the rear facing one 2.0MP. Each tablet comes with both WiFi and Bluetooth for connecting to the internet and other devices. The Kindle Fire has a single micro USB connector; the Contixo Q102 has two of these, and also has an HDMI port.
Each tablet comes with some form of parental controls. For the Q102, these are provided through Zoodles, whilst for the Kindle they are through Amazon FreeTime Unlimited. Each tablet can also be used as a regular Android tablet, and for educational purposes by the installation of suitable apps. Each tablet also comes with what is described as 1 year “worry-free” guarantee.
The Contixo Kids Q102 is a bigger tablet with much more available internal storage, especially with a memory card, that the Kindle Fire HD6 Kids Edition. Both have decent parental controls and probably similar educational uses.
