Can the Kindle Fire HD 6 Kids Edition use the Amazon Appstore?

The Amazon Appstore is, along with Google Play, one of the major sources of Android apps available. So can the Kindle Fire HD 6 Kids Edition use the Amazon Appstore?

Not exactly. Or, rather, children cannot directly access it. What the Kids Edition tablets come with is Amazon FreeTime, which has over 5,000 items available, including games. There are, however, many other apps that are available on Amazon, and these too can be installed on the Kids Edition tablets, although children’s profiles cannot directly access these.

Instead, parents can select apps from the Amazon website itself or from the tablet what other apps from the selection available through the Amazon Appstore and choose to add these to FreeTime through the parental controls.
