The Contixo Kids Q102 and the Orbo Jr are both Android tablets designed for children. The Orbo Jr is a 7″ tablet, whilst the Q102 is a larger, 10.1″ tablet. Although the screens of the two tablets are different sizes, they both have the same resolution, 1024×600 pixels. Each tablet comes with a protective bumper with strengthened corners intended to reduce the chance of damage if the tablet is dropped; the Contixo’s comes in a wider range of colours than the Orbo’s though.
Both are Android tablets, with the Jr running 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and the Q102 running the newer 4.4 KitKat. The Orbo Jr only has 4 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, whilst the Q102 has a much higher 16GB. Each tablet can also have the memory expanded using a micro SD card slot, which will take memory cards of up to 32GB in size.
Both tablets come with stereo speakers, a built-in microphone and a headphone jack. Each also comes with two cameras, one front facing and one rear facing. The rear facing camera on both the Orbo and the Contixo are the same resolution, 2.0 megapixels (MP), but the front facing camera on the Orbo Jr is substantially higher than that of the Contixo, being 1.3 MP compared to 0.3 MP.
Each tablet comes with WiFi for connecting to the internet, but the Q102 also has Bluetooth, for communicating with nearby Bluetooth-enabled devices. The Orbo Jr has a micro USB port, whilst the Contixo Q102 has two of those ports, and an additional HDMI port. For the processor power, the Q102 comes with a quad core processor, whilst the Orbo Jr’s is only a dual core.
Parental controls on the Orbo will need adding using appropriate apps, whilst the Contixo comes with Zoodles. Each tablet can also be used as a regular Android tablet.
The Contixo Kids Q102 has a number of advantages over the Orbo Jr. The screen is bigger – although, depending on the usage, this might be a disadvantage. The processor is more powerful and it has much more internal memory, allowing far more content to be stored on it. The additional communication methods – Bluetooth, an extra micro USB port and HDMI – all allow it to communicate with a wider range of devices. Although the front facing camera of the Orbo has better resolution, generally it is the rear facing camera that is used to take photographs and make videos. The parental controls are better on the Contixo tablet, and it is generally a more powerful and more capable machine than the Orbo Jr.
