The Contixo Kids Q102 is a 10.1″ tablet designed for children, whilst the Kurio 7S is a 7″ tablet. Each has a touchscreen and both have a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. Each tablet comes with a protective silicone bumper designed to reduce the chance of damage to the tablet, if it is dropped, but the Contixo’s case comes in a wider range of colours than the Kurio.
Both tablets are Android tablets, with the 7S running 4.2 Jelly Bean and the Q102 running the newer 4.4 KitKat. Each tablet is essentially a full Android tablet with some changes made to make them more suitable for children.
The Q102 has 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, double the 8GB of the 7S. Each tablet has a micro SD card slot which can take memory cards up to 32GB in size. The processor in the Contixo is a quad core, whilst that of the Kurio is only a dual core.
Both tablets come with stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a built-in microphone. Both have WiFi, for connecting to the internet, but the Q102 has Bluetooth as well, which can be used to communicate locally with other devices. Each tablet has two cameras, one front facing an one rear. The front facing camera on both tablets has the same resolution, 03. megapixels (MP), but the rear facing camera on the 7S has slightly higher resolution than that of the Q102, 2.1MP compared to 2.0MP. The Kurio 7S has one micro USB port, whist the Q102 has two of these, and in addition has an HDMI port, which can allow the Q102 to display its output on a suitable television.
Each tablet comes with parental controls, with those of the Contixo provided by Zoodles, and can be used like a regular Android tablet by parents. The Contixo tablet also comes with what is described as a one year “worry-free” guarantee. Both tablets can be used for educational purposes, but mostly by downloading suitable Android apps. The Contixo Kids Q102 is a bigger, more powerful tablet with more internal memory than the Kurio 7S, although the screen resolutions are the same, despite the difference in size.
