The Contixo Kids Q102 and the nabi 2S are both Android tablets designed for children, so what are the differences between them? The Q102 is a larger tablet, with a 10.1″ screen, whilst the nabi 2S has a more common screen size of 7″. However, the Q102’s screen resolution is only 1024×600 pixels compared to the 1280×800 pixels of the 2S. Both tablets have a protective case with strengthened corners to help reduce the chance of damage to the tablet, although the Q102’s case does come in a range of colours whilst the 2S’s doesn’t.
Both tablets run Android, with the Contixo tablet running the more recent version of 4.4 KitKat compared to the nabi’s 4.2 Jelly Bean. With Android installed, they have access to the Android ecosystem, although kids will only have access to the curated Treasure Box. Each tablet has 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, and both have memory card slots that can take micro SD cards of up to 32GB. Both tablets have quad core processors, although the 2S also has a fifth, battery-saver core.
The Contixo has two cameras, a front facing 0.3 megapixel (MP) camera and a rear facing one of 2.0 MP. The nabi has only one camera, a front facing 2.0 MP one. Each tablet also comes with Bluetooth and WiFi, the former being more unusual to see. Both the Q102 and the 2S have a 3.5mm headphone port and speakers. With regards to other ports, the Q102 has a DC charging port, two micro-USB ports and an HDMI port. The 2S has only a nabi Connector port, a custom port designed to fill all the roles. Both tablets come with parental controls; those of the Q102 using Zoodles, whilst the nabi uses nabi’s own.
The Contixo Q102 is a bigger tablet, although the resolution is less, and it uses standard ports rather than custom ones, which is a plus. The parental controls on the nabi are probably a bit stronger than those of the Contixo. Most of the other features are fairly similar, although the nabi does have a slight edge in a couple of areas. In a couple of others, the Contixo is slightly better. The primary difference between the two tablets is therefore the size.
