LeapFrog’s Leapster GS Explorer is a rather different type of educational toy to the LeapPad Ultra.
Both have access to the LeapFrog App Center of educational apps, and both come with some when purchased, but the Leapster GS has only 3 included apps compared to the Ultra’s 11.
The LeapPad Ultra has a 7″ 1024×600 light touch screen, whilst the Leapster GS Explorer’s screen is only 3.5″, 320×400 pixels resolution, and is not touch sensitive.
The Ultra has a built-in rechargeable battery, whilst the Leapster uses 4AA batteries or mains power. The Leapster also has only 2GB of memory compared to the Ultra’s 8GB.
Both have built in camera and video recording, but the Ultra has two cameras. Both also have a microphone. They will both auto-level the games appropriate to the child’s age.
The LeapPad Ultra has WiFi and internet access, allowing a child to visit LeapFrog’s approved websites, as well as play peer-to-peer games, which the Leapster GS does not.
The LeapPad Ultra can be considered to be an educational tablet, whilst the Leapster GS Explorer is an educational handheld gaming console.
