The LeapPad Ultra comes with built-in kid-safe 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, but is this required to use the tablet?
There are some features that need WiFi in order to set up or use, and others that will work without it. The Ultra comes with eleven apps, some of which are already on the tablet, and others of which must be downloaded from the App Center.
For using the internet and visiting the LeapFrog approved sites that can be found using the kid-safe search engine, you will need WiFi. For downloading new apps from the App Center, you will also need WiFi. Peer to peer games with other LeapPad Ultra Users will also require WiFi.
Once an app is downloaded to the Ultra, WiFi will no longer be needed in order to use the app, as long as it isn’t being played using the peer to peer option with another Ultra user. The cartridges also do not need WiFi in order to use. Pictures, videos and music that is stored on the tablet will also work without WiFi.
