For the Leapster Explorer and the Leapster GS, there are two main sources of games, cartridges and apps. The apps are downloaded from the LeapFrog store, whilst the cartridges are available from a number of sources. If you already have a Leapster variant, and are planning on purchasing a LeapPad Ultra, whether or not that game library you have already purchased will still work on the new tablet is a definite area of concern. You don’t want to have to spend money again if you don’t have to.
The LeapPad Ultra comes with a cartridge slot, so it will take cartridges from the Leapster. The vast majority, if not all, of the cartridges available on the Leapster will work with the entire LeapPad range, including the Ultra, so those existing games will probably still work.
As well as the cartridges, there are also the apps from LeapFrog. Apps from the App Center can be used on up to three LeapFrog devices on the same parental account, and therefore again the majority, if not all, of the apps purchased for the Leapster can be downloaded to and will work on the Ultra.
