The Dragon Touch K8 Kids and the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus Kids are both children’s tablets from Tablet Express, with the K8 Kids being a more recent model than the Y88X Plus Kids, so how is the later tablet different from the earlier one? The first difference is size; the K8 Kids is an 8″ tablet whilst the Y88X Plus Kids is a more standard 7″. The Y88X Plus Kids has a screen resolution of 1024×600 pixels whilst the K8 Kids, as befits a larger tablet, has a higher resolution of 1280×800 pixels. Each tablet comes with screen protection, coming in several colours for the Y88X Plus Kids, intended to reduce the chances of damage if the tablet is dropped.
Both tablets are Android tablets, with the Y88X Plus Kids running 5.1 Lollipop out of the box and the K8 Kids running the more recent 6.0 Marshmallow. Both tablets have access to Google Play and the content that is available from there.
The Y88X Plus Kids has 8 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory whilst the K8 Kids has double that with 16 GB. Each tablet comes with a memory card slot that can be used to expand the available storage using memory cards up to 32 GB in size. Both tablets have a quad core processor although the K8 Kids has a higher than usual 2 GB of RAM. Each comes with WiFi, a micro USB port and Bluetooth.
Both tablets have front and rear facing cameras. The front facing camera on the K8 Kids is 2 megapixel (MP) resolution and the rear facing one is 5.0 MP. Due to conflicting information from the manufacturer, the resolution of the Y88X Plus Kids’ rear camera is uncertain but the front facing camera is 2.0 MP.
Both tablets come with parental controls. In the case of the Y88X Plus Kids these are through Zoodles whilst those on the K8 Kids are provided through the recently popular KIDOZ suite. Each set of parental controls comes with some educational content and games included, although the KIDOZ controls appear to be more fully-featured.
Technically, the Dragon Touch K8 Kids is a bigger, more powerful tablet than the Y88X Plus Kids. Screen resolution is higher although the screen is also larger. The hardware of the K8 Kids is faster and more powerful and the increased internal memory is definitely a plus, especially as the rear camera is probably higher resolution than that of the older tablet. The K8 Kids also comes with some included Disney content. The Dragon Touch K8 Kids is definitely a better tablet than the Y88X Plus Kids, being more recent and more powerful. The sometimes erratic customer service from the manufacturers will likely be the same for both tablets.
