Which Tablet is Better, the Tagital T7K or the Fire 7 Kids Edition?

Tagital 7" T7KThe Tagital T7K and the Fire 7 Kids Edition are both 7″ tablets designed for children, so how do they compare? There is also the Fire 8 Kids Edition, which is very similar to the Fire 7, but is an 8″ tablet; only the differences between it and the Fire 7 will be noted. The T7K and the Fire 7 both have screen resolutions of 1024×600 pixels (the Fire 8 has a resolution of 1280×800). Each tablet has a protective silicone bumper, intended to reduce the chance of damage if the tablet is dropped, with that of the Amazon tablet having slightly more available colours.

Both tablets are Android tablets. The Tagital tablet runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box; the Fire 7 is not a normal Android tablet, instead running Amazon’s own version of the OS, Fire OS. The T7K has access to Google Play, the Fire 7 does not, without extensive tweaking, instead using Amazon’s own Appstore for content.

The Tagital T7K has 8 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory whilst the Fire 7 has double that with 16 GB (the Fire 8 has quadruple the internal memory of the T7K, with 32 GB). Both have memory card slots which can be used to expand the available storage; the T7K will take cards up to 32 GB in size but the Fire tablet takes cards up to 256 GB. Both have quad core processors and WiFi, as well as a micro USB port, but the Fire tablet also has Bluetooth.

Each tablet has front and rear facing cameras, and in both cases the front facing camera has 0.3 megapixel (MP) resolution and the rear facing one 2.0 MP. Each tablet has a 3.5mm headphone socket and both have a single speaker too (although the Fire 8 has dual speakers and Dolby ATMOS stereo).

Each tablet has parental controls, with those of the T7K being provided via the Zoodles app and those on the Fire tablet through Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, a subscription based service with 1 year’s subscription being included in the price of the tablet. Zoodles has some educational content and games included with it and FreeTime Unlimited has over 13,000 games, apps, television shows, films, educational apps and ebooks included. In both cases, normal access to the internet is prevented due to the controls.

The Fire 7 (and Fire 8) also come with Amazon’s two year “worry-free” guarantee in which Amazon state that they will repair or replace a damaged or faulty tablet, even if the damage is accidental in nature.

The Tagital T7K is generally technically poorer than the Fire 7 Kids Edition; internal memory is less, it lacks Bluetooth and it will not take memory cards of the same size. The cameras are identical and both tablets are quad core, with both the Fire 7 and T7K having a single speaker (although the Fire 8 has stereo speakers). The guarantee on the Amazon tablet is also a plus. The Tagital T7K is also quite a bit cheaper than either the Fire 7 Kids Edition or Fire 8 Kids Edition, but both Amazon tablets have substantially better capabilities.
