Which Tablet is Better, the Sprout Channel Cubby or the Contixo Kids Q102?

Sprout Channel CubbyThe Sprout Channel Cubby and the Contixo Kids Q102 are both Android tablets designed for children, so how do the two tablets compare with each other? The first difference is the size; the Cubby is the, fairly standard, 7″ tablet, whilst the Q102 is a substantially larger 10.1″ tablet. Although the Contixo has a larger screen than the Cubby, the resolution of both tablets is the same, at 1024×600 pixels. Each tablet comes with a protective bumper intended to reduce the chances of the tablet being damaged if it is dropped, but the Q102’s covers more of the tablet’s edges and comes in a wider range of colours than that of the Cubby.

Each tablet is an Android tablet, with access to the Android ecosystem of apps and games, including from Google Play, and both run the same version of the operating system, 4.4 KitKat. Each tablet comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of built-in memory, and each also has a memory card slot allowing the use of micro SD cards up to 32GB in size, expanding the available storage. Each tablet also has a quad core processor.

Both tablets have stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jacks and a built-in microphone. Both tablets come with WiFi, for connecting to the internet, and also come with Bluetooth, for connecting to other Bluetooth-enabled devices. The Cubby has one micro USB port, whilst the Q102 has two, and both also have an HDMI socket which can be used to connect the tablet to a suitable television and display the output on it. Each tablet also has two cameras, one front facing and one rear facing. In each case, the cameras are the same resolution; both the front facing and rear facing cameras have a 2.0 megapixel resolution on both tablets.

Each tablet comes with parental controls, in the Q102’s case from the Zoodles app and for the Cubby from its own controls. Both tablets have access to educational content from Google Play, but the Cubby also comes with some content pre-loaded. The Q102 also has a one year “worry-free” guarantee.

In terms of the technical specifications, the two tablets are very similar, with the Q102 being larger. The Cubby comes with parental controls that are probably slightly more effective, but the Q102 is probably easier to use for adults. The Q102 also tends to be cheaper than the Cubby.
