The Contixo Kids Q102 and the iRulu BabyPad Y1 are both Android tablets. The Q102 is a 10.1″ tablet whilst the Y1 has the more common size of 7″. The screen resolution of the Contixo tablet is also higher, at 1024×600 pixels, whilst that of the BabyPad is only 800×400 pixels. Each tablet comes with a protective bumper with reinforced corners, intended to reduce the likelihood of damage to the tablet if it is dropped, but the Q102’s case comes in a wider range of colours.
Both tablets are Android tablets, with access to the Android ecosystem. The BabyPad Y1 runs Android 4.2.2 KitKat whilst the Contixo Q102 runs the slightly newer 4.4 KitKat. The iRulu tablet comes with a dual core processor, whilst that of the Contixo is a quad core. The Q102 has 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, which is double the 8GB of the Y1. Each tablet’s memory can be expanded, as each has a micro SD card slot that will take memory cards up to 32GB in size.
Each tablet comes with stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as a built-in microphone. Both tablets come with WiFi, for connecting to the internet, but the Q102 also comes with Bluetooth, enabling connection to local devices. The Y1 has one micro USB port, that can be used for connecting to other devices. In contrast, the Q102 has two micro USB ports and, in addition, also has an HDMI port. The latter can be used to connect the tablet to a suitable television, enabling the tablet’s output to displayed on the screen.
Both the Q102 and the Y1 come with front and rear facing cameras. Each tablet’s front facing camera has a 0.3 megapixel (MP) resolution, but that of the rear camera on the Contixo tablet is far superior, having a 2.0MP resolution compared to the 0.3MP of the Y1.
Both tablets come with parental controls, and can be used by both children and adults. The Q102’s parental controls use the Zoodles app, which rates content on how age-appropriate it is. Both will run like a normal Android tablet in adult mode, and have access to the wide range of apps and games, as well as educational material, from Google Play. The Contixo tablet can also come with a one year “worry-free” guarantee.
The Contixo Kids Q102 is superior to the iRulu BabyPad Y1 in just about every category. It has a bigger screen (although that might be a disadvantage) with a higher resolution. The processor is more powerful, and it comes with more internal memory. The rear camera is far superior to that on the Y1, and it has a greater range of connection ports, plus Bluetooth capability.
