Which is Better, the Samsung Galaxy Tab E Lite Kids or the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus Kids?

Both the Samsung Galaxy Tab E Lite Kids and the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus Kids are both 7″ tablets intended for children, so what are the differences between the two? Each tablet comes with a 7″ touchscreen display that has a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. Each also has a protective bumper intended to reduce the likelihood of damage if the tablet is dropped. That of the Y88X Plus Kids comes in a range of colours, whilst the Samsung’s only comes in light green, and also has strengthened corners and an adjustable stand.

Each tablet runs the Android operating system, with the Samsung running 4.4 KitKat whilst the Dragon Touch runs the more recent 5.1 Lollipop. Each tablet also has access to the Android content network through stores such as Google Play.

Each tablet has 8 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory and both also have a micro SD card slot which can be used to expand the available storage using memory cards up to 32 GB in size. Each tablet has a quad core processor and a micro USB port and both come with WiFi and Bluetooth, allowing them to connect wirelessly to other devices.

The Samsung has a single, rear facing 2.0 megapixel (MP) camera whilst the Y88X Plus Kids has two cameras, a rear facing 2.0 MP camera and a front camera (of uncertain resolution due to conflicting information from the manufacturer). Each also has a headphone jack and a microphone the Samsung has a single speaker whilst the Dragon Touch has two.

Both tablets come with parental controls. Those on the Dragon Touch are provided through the Zoodles app whilst those on the Samsung are linked to the subscription based Samsung Kids, the latter also including child approved content.

In terms of technological capabilities, the tablets are very similar, with the Dragon Touch edging slightly ahead due to a second camera and a second speaker. It also tends to be cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Tab E Lite Kids. If there is a major area of concern, it’s with the customer service for the Dragon Touch, which would appear to be less than brilliant, especially as they seem uncertain as to the actual specifications of their tablets.
