Which is Better, the Dragon Touch Y88X or the nabi 2S?

Dragon Touch Y88XTablet Express’s Dragon Touch Y88X and the nabi 2S are both 7″ Android tablets designed for children, so how do the two compare? Each has a 7″ screen with the Y88X having a resolution of 1024×600 pixels compared to the nabi’s higher resolution of 1280×800 pixels. Both come with protective silicone bumpers with strengthened corners intended to reduce the chance of the tablet breaking if dropped; the nabi’s is only available in red whilst the Dragon Touch’s is available in red, pink, green and blue.

The Y88X has 8 gigabytes (GB) of internal storage whilst that of the 2S is higher at 16GB. Both have micro SD memory card slots which allow the memory to be expanded using memory cards of up to 32GB in size. Out of the box, the 2S runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean whilst the Y88X runs the more recent version of 4.4 KitKat.

The Y88X has two cameras, one front facing and one rear, whilst the nabi only has a single front facing camera. The camera on the 2S is 2.0 megapixels (MP) in resolution. Those on the Y88X are not known for certain, but it is believed that the front facing camera’s resolution is 0.3MP, although a statement for that being 2.0MP has been received from the company. The rear facing camera was stated twice to be 5.0MP and once to be 2.0MP; the resolution is either typical or far better than the most.

Both tablets have quad core processors, but the nabi 2S also has a fifth, battery saver processor. The Y88X comes with a micro USB port and an AC charging port whilst the nabi 2S comes with its own custom nabi Connector which will only take nabi’s cables. Each tablet has speakers, a headphone jack and a microphone.

Both tablets come with parental controls as standard. Those on the Y88X are provided by the Zoodles app whilst those on the nabi 2S are provided by nabi.

The nabi 2S is a more powerful and more capable tablet than the Dragon Touch Y88X, but it is also as a result more expensive to purchase. The battery life of the Y88X is quite poor at best; the fifth core on the nabi should mean that that tablet will last longer before it needs to be recharging. The Dragon Touch Y88X is best suited as an inexpensive entry level tablet for very young children; the nabi 2S is a more powerful one more suited to older children.
