Which is Better, the Dragon Touch Y88X or the Kindle Fire HD6 Kids Edition?

Dragon Touch Y88XThe Dragon Touch Y88X is a 7″ tablet designed for children and the Kindle Fire HD6 Kids Edition is a 6″ tablet. What are the differences between the two? The initial difference is, of course, the size. The HD6 is a 6″ tablet and the Y88X is a 7″ tablet, although the HD6 is also available in a 7″ version, the HD7. The HD6, despite its smaller screen, has better resolution, 1280×800 pixels compared to the Y88X’s 1024×600 pixels. Each tablet also comes with a protective silicone bumper intended to reduce the likelihood of damage if the tablet is dropped, but the Y88X’s comes in a wider range of colours.

Both tablets are Android tablets. The Y88X runs version 4.4. KitKat of the operating system but the HD6 runs on Amazon’s own variant of Android, which can sometimes cause compatibility problems with Android apps. Both do have access to the Android content network.

The Y88X comes with 8 gigabytes (GB) of memory as standard; the HD6 comes with either 8GB or 16GB depending on the version purchased. The Y88X has a memory card slot that will take memory cards up to 32GB in size; the HD6 lacks this but unlimited content can be uploaded to Amazon Cloud Drive.

The HD6 only has a single speaker and both tablets come with a headphone jack and microphone, as well as a micro USB port for connecting the tablet to other devices and for charging it. The Y88X also has a separate AC charging port. The HD6 also comes with Bluetooth, which the Y88X lacks.

Both have a front facing and a rear facing camera. The front facing camera on the HD6 is 0.3 megapixels (MP) and the rear facing is 2.0MP. The resolution of the cameras on the Y88X is uncertain, due to contradictory information from the manufacturer; the front facing camera is probably 0.3MP or possibly more whilst the rear facing has at least 2.0MP and has been stated by the manufacturer in some cases to have a whopping 5.0MP resolution.

Each comes with parental controls. Those on the Y88X are provided by the Zoodles app whilst those on the HD6 are provided through a subscription to Amazon FreeTime Unlimited. The HD6 also comes with what is called a 1 year “worry-free” guarantee.

The Kindle Fire HD6 Kids is on the whole a better tablet than the Dragon Touch Y88X, despite being smaller and lacking a micro SD card slot. It is also a generally more expensive tablet but comes with a better guarantee.
