The nabi 2S is an updated version of Fuhu’s nabi 2 kid’s tablet, so what are the differences between the two? In many respects they do seem quite similar, but there are differences.
Both tablets have a 7″ screen, but the resolution of the 2S’s is 1280×800 pixels compared to the 1024×600 pixel resolution on the nabi 2. The screens are otherwise both multi-touch capacitive.
The nabi 2S has double the built-in storage of the nabi 2, with 16GB of memory compared to the latter’s 8GB. This memory can also be expanded for each tablet by up to 32GB using the MicroSD card slot. Each also has a quad-core processor and a fifth battery-saver core as well as a rechargeable battery. The battery built into the 2S is slightly improved over that of the nabi 2.
Both tablets run Android; again, the 2S has been improved, running 4.2 Jelly Bean compared to the older tablet’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Each has a 2 megapixel front facing camera that can shoot 720p video.
The protective bumper is identical for both tablets, as is the size and weight.
Both tablets have Bluetooth built in, which is in itself quite unusual for tablets of this type, although the 2S runs 4.0 compared to the 3.0 of the previous version, the nabi 2. Both also have WiFi, but that of the 2S is dual band.
The nabi 2S has slightly less external ports than the nabi 2, as the Mini HDMI and Micro USB ports have been replaced with the nabi Connector. The 2S also lacks the DC connector of the earlier tablet, so it is only charged via the nabi Connector. The loss of the standard micro USB port is a bit unfortunate, as these are becoming more and more standard, as opposed to custom ports like this one. Rather than having separate ports, it looks like the nabi connector fulfils several roles.
The nabi 2S is more expensive than the original nabi 2, but the tablet has been substantially improved, with extra memory, better screen resolution and an updated operating system, enough to make the increase in price worth paying.
