What Are the Differences between the Fire 7 Kids Edition and the Fire 8 Kids Edition?

Fire 7 Kids EditionWith the introduction of the All-New Fire, there are two variants available in the Kids Edition, the Fire 7 and the Fire 8, so what are the differences between the two? Many of the specs are identical, but there are some differences.

The first is the tablet size and screen resolution. The Fire 7 is naturally a 7″ tablet and the Fire 8 an 8″. The Fire 7 has a 1024×600 pixel resolution screen and the Fire 8 one that is 1280×800.

The Fire 7 Kids Edition comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal storage whilst the Fire 8 comes with double that, 32 GB. Both have memory card slots that will take cards up to 256 GB.

The battery life of the Fire 8 is stated as being longer, 12 hours compared to 8 for the Fire 7, assuming usage is the same. Battery life does depend on a whole host of factors though.

The Fire 7 only has a single, mono, speaker, whilst the Fire 8 has dual stereo Dolby Atmos speakers.

The Fire 8, given that it is slightly bigger, is also heavier.

Other than these differences, and, of course, the price, the tablets are the same. Both come with protective cases in blue, pink or yellow, both come with front and rear facing cameras at the same resolution, both have quad core processors running at the same speed and the guarantee and Amazon FreeTime Unlimited subscriptions are the same. Both have WiFi and Bluetooth and the same ports.

Perhaps the most significant difference between the two tablets is the greater internal memory of the Fire 8 Kids Edition. Internal memory is one of the most important factors for a tablet. The better battery and stereo speakers are a plus, but are perhaps not quite as important. Size may or may not be relevant; fortunately the Fire 8 does have greater resolution to go with its greater screen size, which is not always the case. It is a surprise that the Fire 8 has not improved on the built-in cameras, which are not exceptional, with the front-facing camera being really quite poor in comparison to other tablets (the rear-facing one is at the bottom end of average).
