The iRulu BabyPad Y1 is a 7″ tablet with 800×400 pixel resolution whilst the Kindle Fire HD6 Kids Edition is a 6″ tablet with a 1280×800 pixel resolution.
Both tablets run on Android; the Y1 on Android 4.2.2 KitKat whilst the HD6 Kids Edition runs on Amazon’s own variant of Android, Fire OS 4 “Sangria”. Both have access to the Android app ecosystem, although the Y1 will more easily work with Google Play.
The Y1 has two speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The HD 6 only has one speaker, but also has a headphone jack. Both have a front facing and a rear facing camera; on the BabyPad Y1 these are both 0.3 Megapixel, whilst on the HD 6 the rear facing one is 2.0 Megapixel.
Both the Y1 and the HD 6 can be connected to other devices. Both have children’s versions running, which only allow children access to certain content, whilst adults can access more from behind the parental controls.
Both the Y1 and HD 6 have 8GB of internal storage; the Y1, however, has a memory card slot which allows this to be expanded to 32GB. Both have WiFi, but the HD 6 also has Bluetooth.
Both are general purpose Android tablets designed for children; with the HD 6 this is mostly software related with a removable case, whilst the Y1 has had the hardware designed for children as well.
The iRulu BabyPad Y1 is substantially cheaper, and more suitable for younger children.
