Tablet Comparison: How do the Dragon Touch Y88X and the iRulu BabyPad Y1 Compare?

Dragon Touch Y88XTablet Express’s Dragon Touch Y88X and the iRulu BabyPad Y1 are both 7″ Android tablets designed for children, so what are the differences between the two? Both have 7″ touchscreens but the resolution of the Y88X is 1024×600 pixels whilst that of the Y1 is only 800×400 pixels, well below average. Each has a protective silicone bumper with strengthened corners which is intended to reduce the chance of damage to the tablet if it is dropped, and both come in a range of colours.

Both tablets are Android tablets and both run 4.4 KitKat. Each comes with 8 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory and each has a micro SD card slot enabling the storage to be increased with memory cards up to 32GB in size.

Both tablets come with speakers, a headphone jack and a microphone. Each has a micro USB port for connecting the tablet to other devices and charging but the Y88X also has a separate AC charging port.

Both tablets have two cameras, one front facing and one rear facing. Those on the Y1 are both a quite poor 0.3 megapixels (MP) in resolution. The actual resolution of the Y88X’s cameras is uncertain, due to conflicting information received from the manufacturer. The front facing one is probably 0.3MP whilst the rear facing one is probably at least 2.0MP and may actually be 5.0MP, as has been stated by the manufacturer on a couple of occasions, which would put it well ahead of any comparable tablet.

Both tablets come with parental controls and in both cases these are provided via the Zoodles app. The Y88X comes with more material as standard than the Y1 does. It also has a quad core processor.

In general, the Dragon Touch Y88X is superior to the BabyPad Y1 in a number of ways, and there usually isn’t much difference in the price, although the Y1 is often a bit cheaper. The battery life on the Y88X is, however, quite poor and the customer service is allegedly less than brilliant.
