Tablet Comparison: Dragon Touch Y88X vs Orbo Jr

Dragon Touch Y88XThe Dragon Touch Y88X from Tablet Express and the Orbo Jr are both 7″ tablets designed for children, so how do the two tablets compare with each other? Each has a 7″ touchscreen with an identical resolution of 1024×600 pixels, which is on the lower end of standard nowadays. Each tablet also comes with a protective silicone bumper intended to reduce the likelihood of damage if the tablet is dropped, and each bumper comes in a choice of blue, pink, green and red.

Both tablets are Android tablets with the Orbo running 4.1.2 Jelly Bean whilst the Dragon Touch runs the more recent version of 4.4 KitKat. Each tablet has access to Google Play.

The Y88X has more memory than the Jr, 8 gigabytes (GB) compared to the Orbo’s 4GB. Each tablet also has a memory card slot which will allow the available memory to be increased by using memory cards of up to 32GB in size.

Each tablet has speakers, a headphone jack and a microphone. Both have two cameras, one front facing and one rear facing. The front facing one on the Orbo is 1.3 megapixels (MP) in resolution and the rear facing one is 2.0MP. The resolution of the cameras on the Y88X is actually uncertain; inquiries to the manufacturers resulted in different answers, with two replies stating that the front facing camera had 0.3MP resolution and the rear facing had 2.0MP, whilst one stated that both cameras had 2.0MP. 0.3MP for the front facing is plausible; 5.0MP for the rear would be better than anything comparable.

Each tablet comes with WiFi and a micro USB port. The Dragon Touch tablet also comes with an AC charging port. It also has a quad core processor compared to the dual core of the Orbo. The Y88X comes with parental controls through the Zoodles app, whilst the Orbo has none as standard.

The Dragon Touch Y88X is a bit more powerful and capable than the Orbo Jr. Pricewise, they tend to be similar, making the Y88X more tablet for the money. Reliability and customer service for the Y88X are believed to be a bit poorer than they could be though.
