The Tagital T01K is a 10.1″ children’s tablet with a screen resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The T10K comes with a protective silicone case in a choice of two colours, blue and pink. The case is made from soft silicone that is environmentally friendly and harmless to health. On the rear of the case is an integral stand, which will allow the tablet to be stood up on a surface and watched, rather than being held in the hands.
The T10K is an Android tablet, running 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, and comes with Google Play pre-installed, allowing it access to the apps, games and other content available on that app store. The T10K has a quad core processor comes with 16 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory and it also has a memory card slot that is capable of taking memory cards up to 32 GB in size. The tablet comes with two cameras, one front facing and one rear; the rear tablet comes with an automatic flash. At the time of writing, it has not been possible to determine the resolution of the cameras. However, the tablet is based on the standard T10 which has a 0.3 megapixel (MP) front facing camera and a 2.0 MP rear facing camera.
For wireless communication the T10K comes with Bluetooth and WiFi. It has a micro USB port and a charging socket, as well as stereo speakers and a mic. The tablet’s battery life is listed as being 5 hours, but this will depend on what sort of use it is put to, as some used drain the battery faster than others.
The T10K’s resolution of 1280×800 pixels is a bit on the low side for a 10.1″ tablet; it is a resolution more common on smaller tablets. It is still better than the resolution of some 10.1″ tablets though. Assuming that the theorised resolutions of the two cameras is correct, the front-facing camera’s resolution is very low for a modern tablet and the rear-facing camera is about as low as it goes on the typical modern children’s tablet.
The 16 GB internal memory is about standard for a modern children’s tablet; a few, rare tablets still have less and a number have more. Memory card slots and the ability to take cards up to 32 GB in size is also pretty standard. The battery life of five hours is not the best around, but it’s also not the worst either.
Does the Tagital T10K Come With Any Parental Controls?
Parents wants to be able to control just what content their children have online, and how much time a child spends on its tablet. The T10K comes with third party parental controls provided by iWawa. This has a Kids Mode, for children, and a password-protected adult section.
Parents can add apps from Google Play then allow their child to have access to them. They can also add, or remove, websites to the approved list of what sites can be visited. Photos, videos and music can also be added for children to access. Parents can also set time limits, so that their child doesn’t spend too long on a tablet.
In Kids Mode, children can customise the tablet’s theme, so that the appearance is one that they like.
The tablet is recommended for children from age 5 to 12. Younger children may still be able to use it, although more care should be taken, even with a protective case, and older children may no longer appreciate the Kid Mode interface, which would require different parental controls be installed.
There is also the Kids Store built in to iWawa, which has a range of educational and interesting apps suitable for children.
Does the Tagital T10K Have Any Educational Uses?
Educational is often stated as being a major reason for buying a child a tablet. Unlike some children’s tablets, the T10K does not come with any built-in educational uses. This doesn’t mean that it cannot be used for educational purposes, only that it does not have any integral to the tablet’s setup. Parents can still download educational apps from Google Play and find and approve educational sites for their children to visit. If the tablet is going to be used primarily for education, it will probably need a dedicated educational subscription service of some type adding.
Can Children Watch Streaming Content on the Tagital T10K?
Netflix and YouTube are two of the most popular ways of watching streaming content, and the apps for these services can be installed from Google Play and children can be allowed to use them via the parental controls. A dedicated children’s app such as YouTube Kids is probably a good idea as well. Streaming content will need an active connection to the internet to use.
Can Children Play Games on the Tagital T10K?
Games, like streaming content, is rarely stated as being the primary reason for getting a tablet, but they are a common secondary one. Children can play games on the T10K. Parents can install games from Google Play and, as with the streaming apps, allow children to use the games via the parental controls.
Summing Up the Tagital T10K
At 10.1″, the tablet is still bigger than many children’s tablets, although this is becoming less true. 7″ used to be the standard size for a child’s tablet, and many tablets are still available at that size, but it is becoming supplanted by an increasing number of tablets that are 8″ or larger. Larger tablets may be harder to use for smaller children, as they could be too large for their hands; the integral stand does help with this when it comes to watching videos and reading books, but is less useful for other uses. The screen resolution is lower than would be expected for a larger tablet, as many, albeit not all, larger tablets have higher resolutions.
At 16 GB the internal memory is decent and is now the size of the memory in many children’s tablets. A few tablets have less memory and a growing number have more. Memory cards are useful for storing things such as downloaded and created content on, and 32 GB is still the most common size of card taken by a child’s tablet. Should the estimated camera resolutions be correct, these are quite low for a modern children’s tablet, especially a larger one.
The battery life isn’t terrible, but it could be better. It could also be worse. Battery life does depend on what uses a tablet is put to but many children’s tablets do have a better battery life, so a mobile charger should be considered if the tablet is used on the move. The Tagital T10K is a generally okay tablet but it appears to be substandard in a couple of areas.
