Parental controls are how parents keep children safe on the internet. They can also be used for things such as limiting the amount of time children spend using a tablet.
Like all LeapFrog tablets, the LeapPad Ultimate has very strong parental controls. The controls are accessed through a password, and a parent can set limits to the time that is spent on the tablet. Multiple profiles can also be added, so that the tablet will work differently for different children.
As with many LeapFrog tablets, internet access is very limited. The Ultimate uses LeapSearch, LeapFrog’s custom search engine that only allows access to over a 1,000 pieces of web content, including images, videos, games and web pages, that have been hand selected as being totally child-appropriate by the LeapFrog team. LeapSearch access can also be removed from children.
The parental controls are very strong and very safe, but they are also very rigid. If content is not accessible through LeapSearch, it isn’t accessible at all. On the plus side, this means that parents do not need to guess what content is suitable for their child. On the minus side, additional suitable content cannot be added.
